Straight answers to fair questions.
Why WealthDetect runs on your own computers, how it finds opportunities, how much to trust what it reads, and why we kept AI out of your client data.
Your client data stays in your office.
Why is WealthDetect a desktop program instead of cloud software?
Security. With cloud software, your clients' tax returns get uploaded to someone else's servers, and you are trusting a company you have never met to protect them. WealthDetect installs on your own computers and keeps its data on your own machine or office server. Client documents are never sent to us or to anyone else.
Can you see our clients' information?
No. We never receive your client documents, extracted data, or review notes. They stay on equipment your firm controls, under your own security, backup, and access policies.
Do we need client consent to use WealthDetect?
Using tax return information to identify opportunities for services other than tax preparation generally requires a signed client consent, such as a Section 7216 consent. WealthDetect lets you record consent status for each client, and your firm is responsible for collecting the right authorization. Because nothing is sent to an outside service, you don't need an extra consent just to run WealthDetect itself. Check with your compliance advisor about the consent wording your firm uses.
Built on rules your firm controls.
How does WealthDetect find opportunities?
WealthDetect reads your clients' returns and source documents with OCR (optical character recognition), the same technology that turns a scanned page into searchable text. It combines that with the information your team provides, such as client birth dates and the accounts your firm already manages. Opportunity rules then look for the signals your firm cares about: outside brokerage accounts, large cash balances, rollover windows, upcoming retirement milestones, business owners without a retirement plan, and more.
Can we change what it looks for?
Yes. Thresholds such as how much interest income counts as "cash on deposit" are adjustable in the settings, so the review queue reflects the clients your firm actually wants to talk to.
Does it work with returns from any tax software?
Yes. WealthDetect reads the finished return document, not a file from a particular tax program. It handles PDFs from any preparer's software, including returns from a client's previous preparer, as well as scanned paper returns.
Does it tell us what to recommend?
No. Every flag means a client's file is worth a look, not that a sale is waiting. Your licensed professionals decide what is suitable and whether to reach out.
Trust it, then verify it.
How accurate is it?
OCR keeps getting better, but it isn't perfect, especially on faded scans, handwriting, or photos taken at an angle. We recommend verifying the extracted figures before you act on an opportunity. WealthDetect makes that quick: every flag links back to the source document and amount it came from, and figures it isn't sure about are marked for review instead of being presented as fact.
What does "verified" or "potential" mean on a flag?
A verified flag is backed by a figure that was read clearly from the source document. A potential flag is based on something that needs a person to confirm it, such as a figure from a hard-to-read scan. See the evidence page for examples.
Why there's no AI inside.
Does WealthDetect use AI?
Not on your client data, and that's on purpose.
We think AI is an important tool, and we use it to help design and build WealthDetect. But putting AI inside the program would mean one of two things: sending client tax data to an outside AI company, or running a large AI model on every office computer. The first creates a security risk, and the second raises costs. Neither is needed to read a 1099 and apply your firm's rules.
There's also a practical cost. Sending client information to an outside AI service may require a separate client consent, and many clients are still uneasy about AI. Every client who says no is a client you can't review, and an opportunity you might miss.
So we will keep using AI to make WealthDetect better behind the scenes. What we deliver to you stays offline, secure, and free of third-party data sharing.
No server software required.
What do we need to run it?
A Windows 10 or 11 computer for each person using it. Everything WealthDetect needs is included in the installer, so there is no separate database to install or maintain. A Mac version is planned.
Can our whole team use it?
Yes. Install WealthDetect on each workstation and point every copy to a shared folder on your office server. Everyone works from the same client list and review queue. One-person offices can keep everything on a single computer instead.
Try it on your own clients.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Run 25 of your own client returns through WealthDetect for free, with no credit card and no countdown clock. See trial details.
How is WealthDetect priced?
Plans are billed annually and priced by how many client returns you review each tax season. Every plan includes all features and unlimited users. Compare plans.
